The Corn Palace plans to honor the late Gary Munsen in late December by dedicating the basketball court in his name.

Coach Munsen was a boys’ basketball coach for 46-seaons, 39 of which were spent as the head coach at Mitchell High School. Throughout his tenure with the Kernels, Munsen won nine state titles. He also led Mitchell to 34 state tournaments, and had an overall record of 672-254.

Munsen also spent thirteen seasons as the girls head basketball coach for Mitchell (1989-2001), where he won three state titles and posted a record of 230-71.

Both the Mitchell City Council and the Mike Miller Foundation have been leading the charge with this project.

The dedication will occur December 29th during the Mike Miller Classic event at the Corn Palace prior to the Mitchell vs Yankton game that evening.
