The 2019-20 high school sports championship season is underway in South Dakota. On Monday, the Class AA and Class A boys golf championships are teeing off from Yankton (AA) and Vermillion (A), while Sioux Falls is hosting the Class A girls state tennis tournament. Both events will conclude on Tuesday, October 8th.

In the fall, there are only two state golf tournaments. The Class B boys are grouped together with the three girls classes, who have their state tournaments in the spring. So if you’re looking for the Class B boys golf results this week, that’s why you won’t find them.

For Tennis, this year is somewhat historic. High school tennis in South Dakota has been a sanctioned sport since 1973. However, up until this year, there has only been one class. Now, both girls and boys tennis will have two classes of competition. Class AA consists of twelve teams, while Class A has a total of eleven.

Class AA: Aberdeen Central, Brandon Valley, Brookings, Harrisburg, O’Gorman, Rapid City Central, Rapid City Stevens, Sioux Falls Lincoln, Sioux Falls Roosevelt, Sioux Falls Washington, St. Thomas More, and Watertown.

Class A: Aberdeen Roncalli, Huron, Lennox, Madison, Milbank, Mitchell, Pierre TF Riggs, Rapid City Christian, Spearfish, Vermillion, and Yankton.

The Class A girls tennis tournament is in Sioux Falls, October 7-8, as will the Class AA girls tennis tournament later in the week, October 10-11. To stay on top of tennis results, to see event photos, and to check out the brackets, visit us online at sdpb.org/tennis.
