SD Amateur Baseball Releases Safety Guidelines

Amateur Baseball Safety Guidelines

Amateur baseball was supposed to start its league play this week in South Dakota, but then a decision was made to postpone the regular season games for another two weeks.

Because safety is a top concern among all sports organizations as the present time, the South Dakota Amateur Baseball Association wanted to show what precautions they’re taking to keep their players safe. They released a list of nine safety measures that the league is implementing.

  1. Players will be allowed to stand outside the dugout during the game
  2. Umpires can either stand behind home plate or behind the pitchers mound to call balls and strikes
  3. Batting Gloves are required when batting
  4. Players are encouraged to NOT share equipment
  5. During mound visits, players must stay six feet apart.
  6. Fans attending will be urged to wear masks
  7. The dugouts will have hand sanitizer in them
  8. No post-game handshakes, players will tip their caps instead
  9. Before each game, the PA announcer will read safety guidelines

Teams can currently participate in non-league games, but the official start to ‘in-state’ league play won’t start until May 31st.
