Positive COVID-19 Case Connected To Washington Football Program

A student connected to washington high school football tests positive for COVID-19

The Sioux Falls School District sent a letter to parents on Wednesday saying that a ‘student at [Washington] football practice has been diagnosed with COVID-19.’ This comes just days after it was announced that Estelline/Hendricks would have to delay their first two football games of the 2020 season due to positive COVID-19 cases.

The letter that was sent to Washington high school parents on Wednesday was made public by the Argus Leader in Sioux Falls.

The South Dakota Department of Health plans to contact the parents whose child came in close contact to the individual who recently tested positive for COVID-19.

If kids are showing any symptoms related to COVID-19, such as fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, or loss of taste or smell, parents are encouraged to NOT send their child to school and to contact their healthcare provider for further direction.

Sioux Falls Washington doesn’t officially start school until Thursday the 27th, and their first varsity contest is scheduled for Friday August 28th at Howard Wood Field against Aberdeen Central.

It’s not yet known if the individual was part of the varsity squad or not, or if the Washington Warriors season opener at the end of the month will require any sort of reschedule.
