Super Bowl Flyover To Feature Bomber From South Dakota

South Dakota Aircraft to perform flyover at Super Bowl

Super Bowl 55 is one week away as Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida is set to host the event this year. Even though many NFL games have taken place this season with zero fans in attendance, the Super Bowl is planning to host around 22,000. Nearly 40% of those fans are vaccinated health care workers, who are being invited by the league.

It can also be assumed that the production quality of the event will also continue to hit at an all-time high level. This includes there being a flyover before kickoff.

The Air Force News Service recently announced that three different Air Force Global Strike Command bombers will conduct the flyover during the National Anthem this coming Sunday in Tampa. These bombers include the B-52 Stratofortress from Minot AFB in North Dakota, the B-2 Spirit from Whiteman AFB in Missouri, and the B-1B Lancer from Ellsworth AFB in western South Dakota.

To this day, the B-1B Bomber holds around 50 world records in the categories of speed, payload, range, and climb time.

“Supporting this event is a tremendous honor for our command and the US Air Force,” said AFGSC commander General Tim Ray. “We look forward to this opportunity to showcase the reliability, flexibility, and precision of our bomber fleet to the nation during this exciting event.

According to the release sent out by AFNS, each bomber will take off from their own base on Sunday. From there, the trio will meet up mid-air, fly together to Tampa, perform the flyover, and return to their respective bases. This will demonstrate ‘the flexibility of AFGSC’s bombers and their ability to deploy anywhere in the world from the continental United States.

Super Bowl 55 will feature the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Kansas City Chiefs this coming Sunday with kickoff slated for 5:30 pm CT on CBS.
