Mors and Schetnan, McDonald’s All American Nominees

Mors and Schetnan Nominated For McDonald's All American Games

Two high school hoops players from South Dakota have been nominated for the 44th Annual McDonald’s All-American Games. Sydni Schetnan of Sioux Falls Washington and Matthew Mors of Yankton were among the 700 athletes around the nation on Thursday morning who were nominated for the honor.

Both Mors and Schetnan will go on to compete at the D1 level in college next year. Mors, who is the all-time leading scorer in ‘AA’ boys history, will play at the University of Wisconsin.

Building a Legacy

Schetnan is both a standout volleyball and girls basketball player for the Washington Warriors. In basketball this week, the Warriors girls’ hoops team was ranked No. 1 in the South Dakota media preps poll. This fall at the state volleyball championships, Washington finished 3rd at the AA tournament. The 6’5 senior recorded 50 kills through the three state tourney games. Schetnan will attend the University of Louisville next school year, where she’ll play both college volleyball and basketball.

In a normal year, the McDonald’s All-American Games consists of an exhibition basketball game, a slam dunk contest, a three-point competition, and other various activities. However, due to the pandemic, the in-person events for this year’s event are being canceled. Instead, a virtual event will take place.

“Even during an unprecedented year, we were so impressed seeing high school athletes continuing to celebrate the game we all love, while making an impact both on and off the court,” said McDonald’s All American Games Selection Committee Chairman Joe Wooten. “Recognizing that many of these student-athletes had their senior seasons altered or shortened, we wanted to honor them for their skill and dedication to the game of basketball.

Wooten continued… “While we’re disappointed, we can’t hold an in-person Games this year, that does not take away from the accomplishments of this class and they will forever be part of the legendary group of past and present McDonald’s All Americans.”

Later this month, McDonald’s will announce their final rosters for their 44th annual All American Games. Of the 700 players around the nation who were nominated, a committee will choose just 48 to add to this once-a-year ‘exclusive club.’
