A free, national skateboarding festival in South Dakota is underway.
Innoskate celebrates skate culture with music, professional skaters, and plenty of opportunities to try a kickflip.
The festival kicked off in Pine Ridge on Tuesday and is happening now in Sioux Falls.
The city is featuring a temporary skate park on Phillips Avenue for both pros and novice skaters.
Brad Esser of Sioux Falls has been skating his entire life. He said the event is a testament to how far the sport has come.
“I’m a Sioux Falls firefighter and this is my territory, so it’s awesome to see this many people come together and be so welcoming of skateboarding, because it used to not be like that when I first started skateboarding. This would have never happened," Esser said.
Innoskate has something for everyone, even if you're not a skater.
A skate deck art exhibit is on display at Rehfeld's Art and Framing in Sioux Falls — showcasing the artistic side of skateboard culture.
Events continue through Saturday.
