Practice targets are ready for annual disabled youth deer hunt

The 18th annual PDR deer hunt for disabled youth is taking place in Clark, South Dakota from Sept. 22-24.

Handicapped-accessible deer stands and practice targets are ready for the nine hunters participating this year.

The PDR hunt is in honor of Payton Dean Rasmussen whose life was taken by spinal meningitis in 1999. The all-expenses paid hunt allows young children with disabilities enjoy a weekend of mentored hunting.

Last year the group of young hunters filled three deer-tags.

"When the smoke clears the PDR hunt is not merely about the deer harvest," said PDR hunt founder Dean Rasmussen ."There's a recoil from this weekend. It comes when these kids' excited smiles ultimately strike people's hearts."
