The decision to cut gymnastics out of the Sioux Falls School District athletics roster has been reversed – for now – marking the end of a two-year long legal battle.
This represents a major turn for a program once destined for a complete cut.
The district, along with student athletes, their parents and guardians reached an agreement late last week.
In that agreement, gymnastics will be offered by the district for the next three school years at least. Additionally, any future decision to cut the program will need to be made during the district’s regular budget talks.
According to the Sioux Falls Argus Leader, that means to cut the program would require a public vote from the local board.
In turn, the gymnasts and their parents have agreed to drop any associated lawsuits or Title IX claims.
