2025 Girls State Basketball Media Picks

Craig Wollman

It's tournament time in South Dakota, and SDPB will have full coverage of the 2025 girls' and boys' state basketball tournaments on your TV, computer, and phones.

One of the biggest questions going into the girls' tournament is who will take it all this year? We asked South Dakota's media members that question, and this is what they had to say.

Class B
Centerville is the defending champions and in 2025, are coming into the tournament as the number one seed with a 23-0 record and are a heavy favorite to repeat. So not surprisingly, the Tornadoes were the majority pick from the media with 79% of the vote. Harding County, Bennett County, and Lyman each garnered votes.

Class A
There will be a new Class A champion this year after Vermillion was booted in the Region 4A Tournament by Dakota Valley. Not surprisingly, that lead to 16% of media members picking the Panthers to take it all this year. Sioux Falls Christian, whose only loss on the year came to Vermillion, are making their fifth straight trip to the state tournament. Although they have never won it, 29% of our media pickers feel that this is the Chargers year to take the crown. The popular media pick this year is Mahpiya Luta who are making their fourth straight state tournament appearance and are undefeated on the season. The Crusaders garnered 45% of the vote.

Class AA
Bishop O'Gorman have won two Class AA titles in the past three years and come into this years tournament as the number one seed and are again a heavy favorite to compete for the title. Our media members feel the same way at the Knights gathered 75% of the votes. Brandon Valley, Pierre, and Sioux Falls, Washington, also gathered votes.

Tune in to SDPB March 13-15th to see if our media members picked correctly! SDPB will have full coverage of the 2025 SDHSAA Girls Basketball Tournaments on SDPB-TV, SDPB.org/Basketball and on YouTube.
