The 2025 SDHSAA state girls basketball tournaments got underway on Thursday, March 13, with Rapid City (AA), Spearfish (A), and Huron (B) hosting.
Here are the quarterfinal results and the schedule for Friday's action.
Class B
Centerville 51 Deubrook Area 46
Centerville survived a strong effort by Deubrook Area 51-46 as the Tornadoes kept their title defense in play. Izzie Eide led Centerville with 22-points. She also grabbed six rebounds in the game, four of which were offensive. Emma Marshall notched 15-points and nine boards for the Tornadoes as well. Deubrook Area was led by a 15-point performance from Mataya Gouws. Kylee Johnson scored 12-points for the Dolphins too.
Bennett County 51 Parkston 49
Bennett County, who is back at the state tournament for the first time in eighteen years, edged out Parkston 51-49 in the quarterfinals. The Warriors were led by the O’Neill sisters, Reagan and Peyson, who combined for 27-points. Madi Waln also scored ten for Bennett County. Keeara Oakley led Parkston in scoring with 17-points and six steals defensively.
St. Mary 61 Harding County 50
St Mary gave Harding County their first loss of the season with a 61-50 quarterfinal win. The Cardinals entered the state tournament seeded seventh, while the Ranchers are the second seed. St. Mary was led by Madala Hanson, who scored 22-points in the game. Jenna Miller also contributed with 13-points for the Cardinals. For Harding County, Bailey Verhulst and Kamry Padden both scored 13-points. Points off turnovers was a big difference in the game with St. Mary gaining a 23-point advantage in the column.
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 53 Lyman 40 OT
Sanborn Central/Woonsocket defeated Lyman 53-40 in overtime during Thursday’s quarterfinal round. Liz Boschee led the way for the Blackhawks with 23-points and eleven rebounds – a double-double. Alexa Goertz also scored 13-points for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket. Lyman was led by Mak Scott, who tallied 13-points and 14-rebounds in the contest.

Sioux Falls Christian 58 Mt Vernon/Plankinton 39
Efficient play helped lift Sioux Falls Christian to a 58-39 quarterfinal win over Mt. Vernon/Plankinton. Avery Reitz led all Chargers scorers with 14-points, while Emory Lems scored 12, and Maya Nelson and Katie Vander Leest each tallying 11-points. For the Titans, Madalyn Lorang led the squad shooting 50% with 13-points – nine of them coming beyond the arc.
Hamlin 65 Mobridge-Pollock 53
Hamlin advances to the semifinals after a 65-53 win over Mobrige-Pollock on Thursday. Addie Steffensen led the scoring for the Chargers with 19-points. Addison Neuendorf also tallied 18-points in the winning effort. For Mobridge-Pollock, Faith Heil led the team with 13-points. The Tigers were +16 in the rebound category, but the Chargers scored 20-points off 15 turnovers, which was a big difference in the contest.
Dakota Valley 65 Sioux Valley 57
Dakota Valley pulled away late to defeat Sioux Valley 65-57 in the quarterfinals. The top scorer for the Panthers was Ella Otten. Katie Betsworth also notched 15-points in the game for Dakota Valley. The Panthers were +11 in the rebound battle. For Sioux Valley, Keyra Kruse led all scorers with 20-points on 9/16 from the field.
Mahpíya Lúta 76 Wagner 39
Mahpíya Lúta defeated Wagner 76-39 in the quarterfinal round. It started slow for Mahpíya Lúta, but once they found their groove, they spread the game open. Ashlan Carlow-Blount led Mahpíya Lúta with 29-points, eleven rebounds, and five assists. Jodene Big Crow-Hunter also scored 11-points in the winning effort. For Wagner, Ashlyn Koupal led the way with 25-points.

O’Gorman 69 Sioux Falls Jefferson 42
O’Gorman looked the part as the top team in the state with a 69-42 quarterfinal win over Sioux Falls Jefferson. Sydney Terveen led the Knights with 17-points and six assists. Julia Eggert also scored 12 and recorded four steals in the effort for O’Gorman as well. The Knights defense forced 31 turnovers. Jefferson was led offensively by Brinley Altenburg, who finished with ten points.
Rapid City Stevens 53 Spearfish 41
Rapid City Stevens defeated Spearfish 54-41 on Thursday in the quarterfinal round. Taaliya Porter, a senior captain, led the Raiders with 24-points and eleven rebounds – a double-double. While the game was close throughout, Stevens pulled away late to seal the win. Spearfish was led by Jozie Dana, who scored 12-points. She fouled out late in the game.
Brandon Valley 69 Pierre TF Riggs 36
Brandon Valley rolled past Pierre TF Riggs 69-36 in the quarterfinals. The Lynx scored 30-points off of 26 turnovers from the Governors. Gracie Salter led Brandon Valley with 17-points, nine rebounds, and five steals. Alyvia Padgett also scored 16-points in the winning effort for the Lynx. Emery Larson was the top scorer for Pierre in the game. She finished with 12-points.
Sioux Falls Washington 55 Mitchell 38
Sioux Falls Washington defeated Mitchell 55-38 to punch their ticket to the semifinals. The Warriors were led by Grace Peterson and Dana Harpe, who both tallied 11-points. Peterson also led the team in rebounds with seven. The Kernels top scorer was Lauren Van Overschelde. She notched 12-points and contributed with a couple steals as well.
