Dan Swartos is the new executive director of the South Dakota High School Activities Association. Swartos is currently the superintendent for the McCook Central School District. He replaces Wayne Carney as SDHSAA Executive Director this summer.
Swartos says the new job is a bit intimidating. He says even though he has big shoes to fill, Carney is going to work with him to make sure the transition runs smoothly.
"Wayne is as professional and classy as they come, and I know Wayne is going to want me to succeed," says Swartos. "I’ve talked to Wayne already since I’ve taken the position, and he’s offered his congratulations to me. And I know he’s going to work with me before this starts, and he’s going to work with me after this starts."
Swartos says he’s excited to work with students, coaches, educators, and administrators towards making activities and athletics great in South Dakota.
Carney will officially retire as executive director on July 1, 2017. That’s when Swartos will take over the role.
