The Denny Sanford PREMIER Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota played host to the 2017 state wrestling championships this weekend with Pierre taking home the title in Class A and Beresford/Alcester-Hudson winning the title in Class B.
Dakota Galt won his fourth individual state title this weekend. He wrestles in the Class B 145 weight class for Beresford/Alcester-Hudson. Galt says a recent loss in his family made this years win even more special.
"A combination of everything, just topping off my senior year. My grandpa was one of my biggest supporters and he passed away a couple months ago," says Galt. "Just knowing he’s with me every day up in heaven, it just all came over me. It was just awesome to be here and win it for him."
Galt says it’s a surreal feeling to help win the first state wrestling title in Beresford/Alcester-Hudson’s history. To see the full results from this years state wrestling championships, click here.
