When the world thinks of archery, the world thinks of Yankton.
The World Archery Championships concluded in Yankton on Sunday. The Archery World Cup takes place Wednesday, Sept. 29, and Thursday, Sept. 30, at Riverside Park in Yankton with the top 32 archers in the world competing. This is the first time these events have been hosted in the United States and the first time both events have run consecutively in the same location.
Sponsorship manager Ellie Highstreet says a massive and enthusiastic volunteer effort has helped pull off the two once-in-a-lifetime events in southeast South Dakota. She says the National Field Archery Association Easton Yankton Archery Center is known as a world-class archery venue.
“We’re just seeing a lot of gratitude. The community has stepped up tremendously to help support this, and we couldn’t do it without the volunteer workforce that we have as well.”
Spectators are welcome at Riverside Park in Yankton to watch Archery World Cup events this week for free. Several U.S. athletes are set to compete.
