SDPB's Lori Walsh catches up with Sioux Falls Santa for a heartwarming story of magic and hope this holiday season.

For 50 years German speakers in Sioux Falls come together each Christmas to celebrate in the language of their hearts and culture.

Featuring traditional holiday music performed by Bison-area musician/songwriter Eliza Blue, Todd Larson, and Todd’s daughter Rachel Larson of Lemmon, the 30-minute special was shot on location at tiny Rabbit Butte Church in Perkins County. Moved and preserved on private land, the church was once the Catholic Church for Lodgepole, SD.

We Take a Moment for a holiday musical classic. Black Hills vocalist Sophia Beatty performed "The Christmas Song" during SDPB's Jazz Nightly Holiday Special earlier this week. This weekend, she performs at the Matthews Opera House in Spearfish.

Sharing Christmas wishes with Santa is a time-honored tradition for many children. And in rural communities across South Dakota volunteers grow out their beards and don the red suit to keep the holiday tradition alive.

Planted as a 1-foot-tall seedling, on average a live Christmas tree will spend its first six or seven years on a farm before it is cut to be sold and decorated during the holiday season. To learn more about what goes into raising a Christmas tree, SDPB’s Lura Roti visits with the owners of Tannenbaum Tree Farm near Lennox.

Window painting is one of many types of painting this full-time artist practices. He also paints realistic wildlife and his talents have been recognized. He has been a finalist in the Federal Duck Stamp Contest.
