Northern State University (NSU)

Nationwide, high school and college students are facing education overwhelm, apathy, and disconnection. Northern State University in Aberdeen is part of an emerging field of scholarship on HyFlex pedagogies — a field of study that aims to get students reconnected with higher education.

A $35,000 grant from the Knight Foundation Aberdeen Fund and the South Dakota Community Foundation is supporting three years of activities under the umbrella of the Northern State University Center for Public History and Civic Engagement. We talk with the center's director, Jon Schaff, Ph.D., about what's ahead for the program and how it might be affected by the upcoming South Dakota legislative session.
