Recent complaints by South Dakota politicians about foreign investments in U.S. agriculture are a case of political deja vu.

Union representatives at the Smithfield processing plant in Sioux Falls say the past two weeks have seen a drastic rise in COVID cases as the company has relaxed its mitigation standards. Workers once again feel the company is putting profits over safety. Argus Leader reporter Sonya Swink joins us for a look at her reporting on the emerging crisis.

Smithfield Foods is going to be fined more than 13 thousand dollars for failing to protect workers from COVID-19 at its Sioux Falls plant. The pork processing giant will also work with third-party experts to develop an infectious disease preparedness plan at all of its processing facilities. SDPB's Arielle Zionts has more.
