The Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings, or OSEUs, are once again being considered by the state Board of Education Standards.

South Dakota’s Office of Indian Education – or OIE – is not part of the wider Department of Education. Instead, it’s part of the department of tribal relations. For some in native communities, they want their students to have similar standards as public-school students.
