The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra reached national audiences after an esteemed music critic featured the ensemble in The New Yorker.

The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra and Chorus are in concert this weekend. They present Bach's Saint Matthew's Passion. It's an exploration of the Christian story of the death of Jesus of Nazareth as written in the biblical gospel of Matthew.Lori Walsh sat down with Delta David Gier and Timothy Campbell. Maestro Gier conducts the symphony orchestra. Maestro Campbell directs the symphony chorus. The first voice you'll hear is Maestro Gier's.

The South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, like many cultural organizations, is finding ways to provide relevant, beautiful, and thought-provoking programming in difficult times. This weekend's performance includes the Ukrainian national anthem, famed Russian composer Tchaikovsky, a Syrian-American composer named Malek Jandali, and Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain.
