Located in the far southwest corner of South Dakota, Dewey was once an important destination for cattlemen shipping their stock to market.

Our travels this week took us to Fall River County, including the once bustling town of Smithwick. Not quite vanished, but certainly not the busy town it once was.

Many of South Dakota's towns came into existence, and subsequently disappeared, in conjunction with the spread of rail lines across the state.
