The Black Hills saw four fires over the weekend — three were a surprise, and one was planned.

The Black Hills National Forest plans to remove white spruce for wildfire management. By cutting down white spruce, officials hope to allow other tree species to grow.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the hotel wing of the lodge, where 12 of 35 rooms are severely damaged. The hotel wing was added in 1991.
