In his State of the Union address Tuesday night before a Republican-led Congress, President Obama took credit for an improving economy and focused on proposals aimed at advancing the middle class, including tax reform. He said "the shadow of crisis has passed, and the State of the Union is strong.”
Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner called the president’s speech “political theater.” Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said the president knows it’s not likely they’ll pass his proposals.
Chad Newswander, assistant professor of political science at the University of South Dakota, joined Dakota Midday with his reactions to President Obama's speech.
