Captain Christopher Mercado, a 2004 distinguished military graduate of the University of South Dakota, presents, "Counterinsurgency in Afghanistan: A Rifle Company in Imam Sahib," Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Farber Hall on the USD campus. Mercado has served three years in combat, recently returning from north Afghanistan where he served as a rifle company commander. He led counterinsurgency operations in Imam Sahib and Dast-e-Archi Districts of Kunduz Province. He's joined by platoon leader Dan Fischer, a Stanford University graduate who decided he needed to serve so he joined the Army and went to Afghanistan with Mercado.
