President Obama addresses the American people from the White House Tuesday evening to make his case for congressionally-approved military strikes on Syria. The President is calling for a limited military strike on Syria for the country’s alleged use of chemical weapons. Meanwhile Syria said that it has accepted Russia’s proposal to place its chemical weapons under international control for subsequent dismantling. France said it would draft a U.N. Security Council resolution to put the plan into effect. Tuesday morning a bipartisan group of eight U.S. Senators started drafting an alternative Congressional resolution giving the United Nations time to take control of the Syrian government’s chemical arsenal. This comes after a seemingly off-hand remark by U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry that such a move would be the only way for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to avoid a U.S. military strike.
